The different parts of the checkerboard were all individually welded to pieces made to overlap in the key loop. When deployed, the checkerboard lies perfectly flat and playable. The height difference was taken into account: the playing board pieces are all at the same height when the game is opened. The steel sheet was sand-blasted to create the grid effect, and let the material speak in its different forms. The key loop keeping the whole mechanism together is also a fastening system, allowing the game to be carried around by the user.
The object’s purpose widens beyond the sphere of the household. The plywood box is constructed of several layers, carved in different places to allow the pawns to be stored inside.
